G-RAID 12 GB hard drive failure

Hi Everyone,
Enjoyed G-Tech products for the past 12 years. Have 3 different Drives, one is 12 years old and works like a charm, but a bit slow.
Several years ago upgraded my set up to G-RAID Gen 2 Thunderbolt drive.
Set it as RAID 1. Connected to Mac Pro through thunderbolt cable. MacOS Monterey.
6gb are partitioned: 1gb as APFS for Time Machine back up and 5Gb as Mac OS Extended Journaled.
One of the drives failed and shows constant red light.
I bought WD 6TB Ultrastar 7200 rpm SATA 3.5" Internal Data Center HDD.
It is unformatted and I am trying to replace failed drive.
As soon as I put it in to replace failed drive it shows red as well.
G-Raid configurator can’t see my drives at all connected by Thunderbolt cable.
Took all drives out, put just the new drive in, desk utility sees it but refuses to format.
What are my options? G-RAID configurator doesn’t see anything.
Do I partition/format the drive same way so G-RAID starts rebuilding process?
Do I just wipe everything, put new drives in, format it through Disk Utility and set it up as RAID 1 there?

Love G-Tech but looks like support is non existent at this point.

Hi @zpaul,

Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:
https://support-en.wd.com/app/ask

The case is open, but it is a waiting game.

Can someone help please?
I am getting the same offers from support:

  • here is the link to Thunderbolt configurator
  • try different cable
  • try only G-RAID connected
  • try different computer
Same results with different cables, different Macs. Configurator doesn’t see G-RAID.
While every single Mac sees drives and Time Machine offers to use it as back up location!

Any other way to rebuild corrupt volume?
Each time supports answers with additional try this, takes me a minute to try and another day for try this response.
Very expensive product and I am really surprised the software that came with it no longer working!

Support response - go find computer with older MacOS to see if G-RAID Thunderbolt Configurator will work there.
Where would I find computer with operating system I had in 2018?!?!?!
This is beyond frustrating.

Instead of fixing Configurator to work with Monterey they send customers who paid $600- $1800 on a scavenger hunt for some outdated Macs.

I understand Apple is screwing developers, but you need to adopt like others.
Epson paid for my photo scanning software since Epson software is no longer working. There is solution.

Western Digital - says pound sand.
“I would like to inform you that we cannot force the utility to show the drives” - support.
Ok, but how is Utility Disk is able to see them and your fancy Configurator can’t?!?!?!

Great! So how do I rebuild RAID 1?!?!?!?!?!

This product is done. GARBAGE!
No solution, just search for old computer to see if their program works there.
Very unfortunate, good lesson - NO MORE WD garbage products! Money wasted.

Response from Support:
“I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. As per the update from the concerned team. Unfortunately we do not have a way of forcing the utility to see the RAID. We would recommend you to backup any data that is not already backed up. Then you may need to try another computer, to see if the utility rebuild the RAID.”

I feel your pain. Let it be known that on behalf of my company i have purchased 200 of these Gtech raids and now will not only not purchase any of these products again, I will not recommend WD or any of their smaller companies products.
