I have a G-Drive Mini usb 2.0. If I plug it into my mac using usb, it clicks and whirrs and doesn’t mount. If I use Firewire everything is fine. Is this a low power issue?? Would a power supply solve the problem?

Yes it is due to low power on the USB side, its not enough to spin it up all the way.
Yes the power adapter connection on it is for this reason. If your unit was a GEN4 G-DRIVE mini then it uses a 12v 1a AC adapter.
