Two 8TB MCHs purchased 11/22 and 2/23 on a Win10 (Home)LAN. Both with 7.16.0-220 Firmware.
After I had changed things so that one of the MCHs was directly cabled to the router (the other was OFF), UPnP was enabled on the router and I had rebooted the MCH before leaving to alone for the rest of the day, the MCH Firmware was updated overnight to “94” sometime prior to 4:45am the following morning. Excellent!
Since then I have been try to repeat that success with my other MCH. Currently, the only difference between the 2 MCHs is that the 1st was empty and the 2nd contains several TB of backup data.
If it doesn’t work again tonight I will be contacting WD Support.
Just thought that in the interim I would post this info here to see if anyone has had experience with such a scenario that resulted in a Fix.
Doesn’t hurt to ask.
Thanks!
In another Thread NoPLex mentioned that the delay to update recently can actually be as much as 7 days, so I will just leave it running and touch it periodically. If I feel the HDD running the Firmware has not been updated.
Hi @y0ungbl00d,
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

Thanks, Keerti_01!
Yes, I did that first thing yesterday morning.
SUCCESS! The FW was updated overnight.
I came here last week looking for a way to toggle-ON the HDD Sleep function.
That led me to the fact that the FW on both of my MCHs was old (7.16) and I should get it updated to [1] then be able to have some configuation options and [2] there is a 15Mar23 DropDeadDate on getting the FW Updated (since there is no Manual Option).
Welp, now my minimum requirements are fulfilled; 9.4, apparently, sports a Sleep-ON default and both of my MCHs have the newest FW version.
I will leave some of the Silly/Odd Things that I have encountered while trying to learn my way around the new FW options (and, no, I cannot access the new-with-9.4 “Manage” Option available ).
I have toggled-OFF the UPnP option in my router (Whew! Having that on just bothers me a bit) and can access both of my MCHs as NASs (I have never had a Cloud interest) so that will be fine for now. Later I will start a new Thread here to follow-up on some of the strangenesses … after I investigate the new landscape more closely.
Thanks for your continued support, Keerti_01!
