good morning,
by app . ios I can not play file mkv o avi.
how do I fix ?
I can not access with no other applications to myCloud remotely ( no wifi )
Tnx
The default media player can’t play the video files in streaming format. I suggest trying another media player from the app store that supports files in streaming format. You could try VLC player and MX Player.
Thankyou for answer but vlc don’t find mycloud adress, and i can copy the file link.
How can do il?

Typically one would need to use the WD My Cloud mobile apps to access the remote My Cloud, then when one selects a video file to open, one should typically get a popup window (like shown below), at least for Android, that asks which “player” one wants to use to open the video file.
Funny… I’m running the Android v4.4.3 app and I don’t get that screen; in fact, I’ve just opened a Cloud Idea to request just that.
If I select file, hit the menu button, then hit ‘Open With’, it launches an app straight away; I don’t get asked what app to open it with. And I can’t find a way to alter the associations, either in the app, or under Android App settings.
A TS transport stream video opens with Jota text editor…
One can clear the default app by doing the following for the app that is the default for a particular file type or file extension:
- Go to Android Settings.
- Select Applications.
- Select the application that is opening by default for the file type.
- Scroll down to
Launch by defaultand tapClear defaults.

Once cleared, one should be presented with a dialog box asking which app to use when opening that particular file type/extension.
I know that’s how it should work…
But it doesn’t… There are no defaults noted in Settings. And so the ‘Clear Defaults’ button is greyed out.
I just uninstalled and re-installed the app, and it still show .ts files associated with Jota text editor, and ‘open with’ gives no options, but starts to load the file into jota.
I’m wondering whether it’s an issue with Android 4.2.2 on the Hudl; no apps show defaults being set. I had the same problem with File Manager. At least its ‘open as’ still offers a choice, even if I can’t clear the defaults. Google isn’t finding lots of reports of this problem, but it’s consistent on both my Hudls, and, I think, on the other Android 4.4.2 devices I’ve got. I need to check…
Oh, ****. Of course, when I installed the app again, one of the first things it did was pop up a box asking if I wanted to upgrade. Wondering ‘WTF: I’ve just downloaded the app?’ I stupidly clicked ‘upgrade’ thinking this would upgrade the app.
But it’s not for the app, is it, it’s for the mycloud… That explains why I can’t access it at the moment.
Sigh
Oh, and I knew there was a reason why I never set the default app in CM File Manager; because when you do, it stops offering the choice of app to use, for any file you say is text. Uninstalling doesn’t clear the default either. I’ve got around it before, but I can’t remember how…
Twonky just finished scanning media; that’s 52 minutes. So an hour of server downtime, plus knackered behaviour of my tablet apps, just because I’m trying to get the My Cloud app working… I should just accept the limitations, and stop fiddling…
Yeah, that’s the thing about Android that does my head in every time I try to use defaults: it’s ‘the wrong way round’. The defaults should belong to the launching app, not the app that is launched. IMHO…
So whenever I try to clear app defaults in a launching app (MyCloud app, for instance), there aren’t any.
But I might want to launch a particular app from some other app, and clearing launch defaults clears it for all the other launching apps, so you have to go and set them up again, if you can remember what they were…
One issue to send to Google. Not that they take any notice of users…
So I’m back to the MyCloud app launching Jota. Jota doesn’t have any defaults set… I might try uninstalling it.
Done. Now MyCloud app doesn’t show the jota icon for .ts file.
BUT when I hit ‘open as’, it doesn’t offer any apps; it says I don’t have any apps to open it, and directs me to the play store.
I DO have apps to open .ts files; Bubble, Kodi and VLC. Heck, even the built-in Video Player can play .ts files…
Sigh…
Reinstalling jota causes mycloud to associate ts file with jota again.
Looks like mycloud app needs to be told that .ts files are video streams; it seems to have a built-in association that they are text files.
