EX2100 NAS to USB Backup does not remove deleted files

I just set up an EX2100 NAS and it works great so far. I uploaded all files to the EX2100 and ready to make a backup to an external hard drive. 

I attached a My Passport USB drive to the back of the NAS and ran NAS to USB Backup. The backup process is very fast. When I add new files to the NAS, these files will be copied to the external USB drive. HOWEVER, when I delete files on the NAS, these files won’t be removed from the external USB drive. 

Have any one experience this? I would like the backup to be an exact copy of the NAS. Is there a better way? I hate to have to use WD Smartware because it is extremely slow.

Hello and welcome to the WD Community. 

Currently, the USB Backup option does not synchronize your files.

Please note, that this option does not have a continuous backup capability. If you add new files to the EX2100, you will need to create a new backup to the USB attached drive.

I found there are 2 Backup Types - Copy and Synchronize. I choose Synchronize rather than Copy and that seems to do the trick. I will run a few more test cases to confirm that.
