I updated to OS 5 about 36 hours ago. The dashboard says it is still indexing. The Apps page has also said “Loading” the whole time.
Should I be worried?

More than 10 days in my case and still running. temperature over 50º and fan at 10.000 rpm.
I am sorry but I am really upset, just to let you know upfront.
Indexing will run as long as you have enabled web cloud access. regulary it continues after general index is completely built. Then it will continue due scheduler by the OS5 and rerun at about hourly to get it re-sychned for update on daily base. …for permanent!
More or less this is what the community experts currently recognized and reported in multiple threats.
I have disabled curretnly all the cloud access options/shares, as I see no real improvement instead of feeding up additional disk space, cpu and memory resources of the NAS itself.
I’m thinking of doing the same. I haven’t used the cloud access at all. I can get at the media on the drives quite well via Plex. So there may be no point of my grinding up resources with the pointless indexing.
took my 2 weeks…
I can’t remember how long mine took when I initially set up the new OS. I am convinced it took 2-weeks. Now, unfortunately, it decided to do another full indexing and I am on day 4. This is inexcusable.
The worst part of all this is that I am unable to access my drives directly from my computer. I have to use the web and the cloud based system. Is anyone else finding this happening?
So as a side note. . .
. . . .I use FastStone on my PC. It is a simply photodisplay program.
It does indexing.
It will index a directory upon first demand, and takes the blink of an eye to complete each directory.
THAT is how the WD software SHOULD perform.
i spend nearly 2 months for my 6TB data and it is 58% only… wtf…
Is your Firmware 5.08.115? I believe you haven’t updated the firmware from the first release.
If you can share your logs thru private message I may get more details on the status of the device.
I’m very disappointed about my NAS system since 1 year I started to have a lot of problem with it (Fan not responding on operation except on boot sequence, web interface not stable) and now with OS 5 I got more problems than before… ( Fan constantly running at 100% even on idle operation, its been 3 days that my system is indexing my data 3tb and it still around 7% and sometimes it reset when I login again on the web interface, Web interface not accessible at all blank page). Now tonight I was only mapping network drive on my girlfriend’s PC and suddenly the system went off! There’s a lot of issue with this product. I don’t know if I should change brand I don’t feel my data is safe with that platform. For the fan problem, support told me that it was a defective fan but now with the new OS its working now ? I don’t understand anymore what’s happening with this. Running the v5.08.115 for the firmware.
Unbelievable. Inexcusable on the part of WD. Now, they are sending out the notices to “upgrade to OS 5”. How can they do this when there are so many problems with the software upgrade, especially, if you have to wait days, weeks, and months to access your data through the network? WD’s solution: use the web-based cloud access.
Once my data is finally indexed and I the data backup is complete, WD will never see me again. Terrible service. Worse support. And the utmost despicable solutions based problem solving.
WD disgust me. They sicken me.
