Brand new drive, just purchased yesterday. Followed instructions, installed WD Discovery software, Drive Utilities, and Security Apps. My Computer shows the drive as My Passport (F:), and I can successfully back up files onto it using Windows Backup. But when I open the Security or Drive Utilities apps, (through WD Discovery, or using the desktop shortcuts), I get a screen that says “Attach a Supported WD Drive”. So the WD Apps are not recognizing My Passport drive, even though my OS can see it. This is on a laptop running Windows 7. I checked the firmware update, and it says my drive has the latest firmware. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the WD software, multiple restarts, etc. Please let me know how I can use the WD Apps with my new drive? Thank you, -Dan. [REMOVED DUE TO PRIVACY POLICY]

Hello I just had the same problem while trying to erase the locking password on an old mypassport essential. WD Security was not detecting mypassport drive while WD utility was ok.
Problem was simply to run WD security as admin
This seems not to be documented by WD…
