Do older 160GB Passport Portables have an adjustable sleep mode?

Hi… I’d like to plug in my older Passport Portable 160GB 2.5" drive into my My Cloud’s USB port. As far as I understand it, the USB port, itself, does not power down during My Cloud’s sleep mode and so if you wish the external drive to sleep it has to have its own standby mode. (If this is not the case, please feel free to correct me.)

So… it SEEMS that this older WDXMSB1600TN Passport Portable does have a standby/sleep mode because it goes very quiet after a time. Can the timeout for this function be adjusted? I tried using WD Drive Utility (their download) for this but it doesn’t recognize the drive and I don’t see the Passport Portable on their list of devices for it.

Thank you.

Hi, I believe that you can use the WD Smartware to change the drive settings, however I do not know if the newest version of the software would allow you to, I would try to get a version prior to version 2.0 and test if it works.
