Data recovery

my light was yellow and I went through troubleshooting with the WD support. Basically was told I need to send the drives for data recovery.
I bought a new enclosure and drives.
I swapped the A drive between the two enclosures and neither enclosure would boot. So I normalized them.
I swapped the B drives and had the same results.
I swapped both drives and the new drives in the old enclosure booted up. The old drives did not.
I’ve been reading other post and I keep seeing some Linux solutions.
Should I buy a external drive enclosure or dock to try to recover some of my data or can this be accomplished using the mybook enclosure I have?
If the mybook will work whats the best way to connect it to my computer?
