Connected wrong power cord - yellow blinking light and network light, no boot

I recently switched internet providers and the my cloud was not connecting to the internet after the install, just blinking yellow. ( I switched to ATT Fiber from cable, found an article that stated the my cloud does not work well with att router and to use a switch.) this happens before and I fixed the connection by unplugging the power to reset the device and then powering back up. When I did it this time, I grabbed the power cable from my old modem, which is a higher voltage than the 12v needed. Once it was connected (and after since plugging in the correct cord, the yellow light blinks along with the network port lights (network lights just going on and off, not processing blinking) and I do not hear the HD spin up, I don’t hear anything like the device is trying to work. I am assuming I fried a node, much like a fuse. Does anyone know If I can just replace the board, a small node/fuse, or anything I can do to get it running again? I have tried the reset button, other 12v power cords, other outlets but to no avail… any advice or guidance is appreciated!

Do you have a 1st or 2nd generation My Cloud? A 1st generation has firmware 04.xx.xx, 2nd has 02.xx.xx.

@cat0w I believe it’s a first gen, I bought it about 4-5 years ago I think and it looks like the one in the video you posted. I can’t tell the firmware version, I don’t think, because I can’t get it to boot.

Look at the bottom of the My Cloud and look for the P/N number. This assumes you have a single bay My Cloud and not a multi bay My Cloud or a My Cloud Home. If the P/N number ends in “-00” then it’s a first gen (v3.x/v4.x firmware). If the P/N number ends in “-10” then it’s a second gen (v2.x firmware).

Ahh ok, yes, it is a first gen. P/N ends in “00”.

@Jamesdh
Since you have a 1st generation My Cloud look at the User Manual, LEDs. While it may look yellow to you it should be white. Check the different colors and what they mean. When I reboot or shutdown and reboot my 1st generation MC it normally takes 8 to 10 minutes.

I have read the manual many times over the past few years and rebooted the device often. What you are suggesting is not the issue I am experiencing. It is a yellow blinking light, not white and the device does not power up at all. I have left it plugged in over night and it is still the same. Before I plugged in the wrong power adapter, whenever it was plugged in, the HD would spin up. Now nothing happens except the lights blinking.

Thanks for update and quick reply. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on this thread. Looking for the same issue.
