Connect directly to PC possible?

I’m using a shared modem owned by another person next door, I will only be here for 6 months, and they will not allow me to connect my My Cloud to the network. Is there a way to set it up to run directly from my pc so I can view my files?

You can connect mycloud directly to your pc using ethernet ports. That will require, you pc to be setup with static IP address. I am linux user so can’t give more details.

You have a couple of options. First, note the My Cloud is NOT an external USB hard drive. You cannot connect the USB port on the My Cloud to your PC and expect it to work. Rather you can connect the network port on the My Cloud direct to your computer. The My Cloud will take a bit longer than normal to boot since it won’t find a DHCP server to obtain an IP address from and will default to a generic IP address.

Or you could buy a cheap gigabit router and connect both the computer and the My Cloud to it. Typically routers will work without broadband/internet access.

Connect the ethernet port direct to your PC. Every modern PC should have
auto sensing and you can use the normal ethernet cable.

Intall a DHCP server for windows or linux and you can use your WD My Cloud (mycloud.com service is of cause not working.)

Thanks for the help. I’ve got it working now and am transferring files to a My Passport Ultra.
