Just got a new Laptop with Windows 11 and I’m unable to connect to MyCloud. I still have my Windows 10 Laptop and I can connect to it no problem. I have looked in this community and also worked with Chat GPT for help. I did activate SMB 1.0/CIFS and verify my new Laptop and MyCloud have the same work group name.
At this point, I don’t know what else to check or try to create this connection. Any help will be appreciated.
See the following link suggestions. There is a well known issue with later versions of Windows 11 where Microsoft made some changes that caused problems trying to display older NAS units like the My Cloud on the local network. If these links don’t work, try accessing the My Cloud unit by it’s IP address rather than by it’s name.
What firmware does your My Cloud Have? Is it connected to your router and shows as connected and on your network? Have your new computer on along with My Cloud and reboot your router. Do they both show on your routers list of devices? If yes, then reboot your new computer and then see if the My Cloud connects.
I did look at this article and followed the steps. I didn’t find anywhere I could enable SMB on my device nor I could disable Guest access. I didn’t went further down to step 8 and below that as this is beyond my comfort zone and don’t want to modify something, I don’t know what I’m doing.
First step is to ensure SMB is enabled on Windows 11.
To enable SMB on Windows 11, go to Control Panel, select “Programs,” then “Turn Windows features on or off,” and check the box for “SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support.” After making the changes, restart your computer for them to take effect.
As to using Powershell (run as administrator) to issue the proper commands to Windows 11 to reverse the change Microsoft did that is causing you not to see the My Cloud on the local network. If you feel that is out of your “comfort zone” and don’t want to make the necessary change. That is your choice. You will likely be stuck with using the My Cloud’s IP address to access the My Cloud then on your local network in Windows 11.
