Can't connect 2nd computer over network using SmartWare

Windows 7 on Desktop and Laptop, both with SmartWare installed. Using WDBACW0020HBK-NES.

When i click on SmartWare in my Desktop menu SmartWare home page on Desktop shows the desktop and My Book Essential.

I ran Backup on the Desktop, works OK.

I went to my Laptop start menu and selected WD SmartWare, I get a different home page than I do from the Desktop, it goes through the categorizing but the Backup and Retrieve tabs are not highlighted, only the Home, Settings and Help tabs are highlighted and My Book Essential does not show. There was no help tab on the Desktop.

I then used the Laptop, over the network, to go to the Backup drive on the Desktop and clicked SmartWare and I get a popup "Application not started from Drive.

I have been fighting this for 2 days and I am frustrated.

I need help!

Hi, be sure to connect the My Book USB cable directly to the computer that you would like to backup. Also check if the My Book icon appear on the Smartware Home page, if you can see it, click on it to make the Backup and Retrieve tabs accessible.

Yesterday I moved the EHD to the laptop and the proper Home Page came up so I did the backujp. I checked it at noon today and the laptop backup is updated but the desktop has not been backed up since yesterday.

This means the backup does not work on a Network!

If I can’t do backup of all 3 computers on one shared EHD over a network I might as well delete the backup software in the new EHD and go back to using the Win 7 backup on 3 EHD’s. I don’t want to keep swapping the EHD from one computer to another.

Is there a procedure to do what I want to do?
