The USB-3 connector on one of my WD drives got crushed today by an office chair (long story). Since it is a proprietary connection, I don’t think I can pop by a Walmart and replace it. Can I replace this cable, and who sells replacement cables of this type?
You don’t actually need that exact cable. Just open the WD case, take the drive out, and plug it in with a normal SATA-to-USB adapter or inside a desktop. It skips the broken connector and is usually the quickest fix.
Yes, you can absolutely replace that cable. It’s actually a standard USB 3.0 Micro-B connector, not a proprietary Western Digital design. You can find this cable at most major retailers, including Walmart, Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and AliExpress.
