Anti-virus Essentials / date of Virus signature

Hi
I installed Anti-virus Essentials on the WD mirror.
It worked.
But the signature of the viruse files are date to 2014.
I have tried to update this serveral times with out any success.

My question is anti-virus still a valid product?
Are there any other tools?

Obsolet Anti-Virus Essentials app on a My Cloud

Hello, today I installed WD’s Anti-Virus Essentials App on EX2 MyCloud using firmware 2.11.153 released 10/19/16. (This way: My Cloud: Installing and Using the Anti-Virus Essentials App ) After automatic (before scan) and manual updating Anti-Virus Essentials App it still shows “latest” virus definition database update for 09/18/14. Is it a hoax? Are there further updates/versions available or do you know any alternatives? Thank you.
