After smartware 2.0.1 update, it will not allow me to select any folders to back up

I just got a My Passport 750GB portable hard drive.  Plugged it in fine and installed all the included software on it.  I believe smartware was 1.1.2 ?  Anyway I picked a few folders I want backed up continuously.  The main purpose of this drive is for backups.

Anyway it was backing up and doing its thing.  Seemed to be running ok.  Then I noticed it said there was an update available.  So I clicked it and it opened up the web browser to download the file.  I downloaded it and installed it.  So now it ended up with 2.0.1 on it.  However I go to the backup tab and none of the folders are selected.  I click the checkboxes and they flash but no check mark will go in the box.  I tried disable backup then enable backup and still I cannot get it to do anything.  I rebooted.  Still nothing.  I thought well maybe because version 1.1.2 started partially backing things up, so I tried to delete the WD SmartWare.swstor folder on the passport drive thinking “lets start over”.  It kept saying to “try again” I need administrator privileges.  I am an admin and I hit try again a few times and it didn’t let me delete.

So now I uninstalled SmartWare and I’ve setup Windows 7’s built in Backup.  However I like to know all my available options and if Smartware is better I’d like to hear why.  But it didn’t let me select anything at all so I’m kind of curious why that would be too?  Maybe there is an issue with 2.0.1 and I should install what came with the drive?  Maybe I should just keep it uninstalled and use Windows built in backup?  Any good advice out there?

Hello, try doing a clean installation of the latest Smartware version. Another option you can try using is Windows backup, but it really depends on you which one will you choose.
