I have a legacy MyBookWorld external NAS drive that I got back in 2007. It is the white model with the blue circular lights and power switch on the front. I have powered it up and plugged it into my router. I can see it as an attached device in my router and I can log onto it using its IP address on my network. But I cannot see it on my PC network, nor can I see any files that may be on it. Its only 500Mb capacity, but still might be useful.
I still have the installation CR-ROM but it wont install. My antivirus reports it as Maleware!! I could disable that, but not sure though whether it will install on my Win 10 PC,
Is there any online software that I could use to get it visible on my network, or are there network settings that I can change to make it visible on my network in explorer?
Thank you for responding to my post. No, this device has never been used with my Win 10PC. The last time I would have used the Mybookworld NAS would have been at least 12 years ago and it would have been visible to my then old PC running Win7 on my home network.
If I type its IP address into my browser on my Win 10 PC, I can connect to its device management page. But I cannot see it on my local network to explore what files might still be on it.
I have seen that it may not be usable on Win10 or 11 computers. I dont know if that is correct or not though. My version of Win 10 is the Pro edition, not Home edition.
The device is no longer supported by WD and hasn’t been for a few years now unfortunately. It would be a nice to have, though it is not imperative to have it.
Again, check your Windows and make sure SMB 1.0.CIFS Client is enabled. If not enable it. Lot’s of YT vids to walk your through the steps.
While in the admin page for your mybookworld, make sure the shares still exist and note their names.
I have a WD EX4 that went EOL in 2022. My other NAS is a Netgear Duo I acquired around 2012. It went EOL about 10 years ago. Both work fine for local access using my Win11pro desktop, smart TVs and iPhone 13p.
I enabled both SMB1.1CIFS Client and Server, but the device is still not visible in Windows Explorer under My Network. I can still view its login pages via a web browser, and it shows just one shared folder, PUBLIC.
As its just a nice to have, I’ll probably give up. But thanks for giving advice.
You should see a list of the active shares. If can also use the name of your mybook instead of IP address with the same results.
FWIW, my Win11 no longer shows either of my NASs if I browse the network. Not sure when that happened.
Instead, I open the Map Network Drive and enter the path to the share in the Folder box (\\servername\share). I check the box to remember next time so it always shows up. On shares I don’t access daily (I have a lot), you can drop down the Folders list box and see the recent ones.
Success . I’m not quiet sure how. I did try command prompt commands , but the syntax was incorrect. I looked again at my network in explorer and lo and behold, there was the drive and the folders last created in 2013.
So thank you for taking the time to help me resurrect my old drive
