2 TB External Hard Drive will not stay power on

I had this drive for a few years now and used fine under windows xp and windows 7.

One day, I plugged in the unit, connected the usb cable to the computer, but the power won’t stay on.

It stays on for about 5 seconds blinking lights like 5-10 times and turns itself off.

I then unplugged the usb connector to the computer and trying to boot it up again only using the power, but the same thing happens.

So frustrating. I might have to use online storage services from now on because I have so much issues with external hard drives. I had about 13 western digital drives but about half of them goes out of service after 5 years.

Not liking this.

does it click few times and spin down?

i am having the same issue. No clicking. Unit turns on, spins for a little bit about 5 seconds and then turns off. Light does blink a few times also before turning off

^ spin up and spin down would most likely mean head issues, are you sure there are no clicking at all? Sometimes clicks are very very quite. Put your ear to it. Let me know what you hear
