WDSMartware.exe application file quarantined by AVG ANTVIRUS PROGRAM

I Tried installing new WDSmartware.exe from
http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/wdsmartwareupdate/wdsmartware.asp?id=wdfMyPassport&os=win277

That didn’t work because I got a message that I have a later updated version on my computer. My operating system is Windows 7.

I still have the quarantined WDSmartware.exe in my AVG virus vault, but since it might be corrupted or infected, I decided not to restore it, How do I download a clean updated version of WDSmartware.exe ?

Thanx in advance for any assistance. Gramps3 07/20/2016

Have you visited the Learning Centers and tried each one?

I just went to http://setup.wd2go.com/?mod=download&device=mc
and downloaded WD SmartWare Pro file for installation on my computer
the file downloaded was:

SmartWare_Windows_Upgrader.zip
http://download.wdc.com/smartware/SmartWare_Windows_Upgrader.zip 40,961kb 40.0mb .

Again got the same message when I tried to install the above zipped file – “ Newer version of WD SmartWare already installed Exiting setup.

I then went to windows 7 control panel Programs And Features, where I found the following 3 WD files:
WD SmartWare installed on 6/25/2016 size 72.3MB Version 2.4.16.16 and
WD SmartWare installer installed on 6/25/2016 size 113.3MB Version 2.4.16.16
WD Quick View installed on 6/25/2016 size 13.1MB Version 2.4.16.16

FWIW I also have the following 2 STILL WORKING WD files in my Programs and Features Windows 7 folder
WD Security Version 1.3.1.2
WD Drive Utilities Version 1.3.2.2

I then tried your other suggestion
http://www.mycloud.com/Learn/?language=en#mc_download

Where I found the most current version of SmartWare
File Size: 42 MB
Version: 2.4.16
Release Date: 6/21/2016 | Release Notes
Download

When I downloaded the WDSmartWareInstaller_2.4.16.16.zip file it completed the installation but It did not create
The normal WD SmartWare ‘Face Icon Shortcut’ (See icon image below) All I got was a generic short cut that gives me the following message.
The item ‘WD SmartWare.exe’ that this shortcut refers to has damaged or moved, so that this short cut will no longer work properly.
Do you want to delete this short cut ?

It now seems to me that there is something in the WD.SmartWare Version 2.4.16 06/21/2016 release that is causing the AVG anti virus program to
prevent its complete installation on my computer.

The following site WD SmartWare - Virus and Malware Tests

Said this about the WD SmartWare 2.4.14.13 version

WD SmartWare has tested clean of viruses and malware.

We last tested the this file on Feb 17, 2016 with 29 different anti-virus and anti-malware programs and services. Out of these tests, the WD SmartWare download tested clean 100% of the time.
According to the antivirus software we tested the file with, WD SmartWare does not contain any malware, spyware, trojans or viruses and appears to be safe.
It is important to note that these virus and malware test results only apply to this version of the program.

I temporarilly disabled AVG to allow me to download and install the latest WD SmartWare 2.4.16.16 version
At the end of the installation when I hit the Finish button I got a long complicated flashederror message that
among other things said the file couldn’t be found

I previously tried excepting WD downloads in the AVG program, and that didn’t work.
.
Any suggestions? Gramps3

FWIW, here is the long error message I keep getting at the end of the installation
of WD SmartWare version 2.4.16.16 dated 6/21/2016

On Saturday 07/23/2016 I called WD Tech support at General Support 1 (800) 275-4932
and talked to a WD tech in Costa Rica. He created a case file # for me, and suggested
I call back on Monday and talk to a level 2 WD tech. He said The Win32Exception indicated
I may have a registry error that is causing the problem. Before calling WD be sure you have your
WD Passport Ultra Serial # handy. It is on the sticker on the back of the drive in very very small print.
