Wd tv what generation do i have

I recently bought a (i think) 1st gen wd hd player, i love it and a few friends want me to get them the same. The only thing is i connect my optical cable to a sony 5.1 system for audio (some movies dont play sound through the tv) my friends however dont have 5.1 systems.

My question is how do i tell if i have the gen 1 or gen 2

My sysstem is running 1.03.01 should i update it? is the 1 at the start of the firmware the clue on my gen.

Thanks for any help

chris

There are some posts on here quoting the product codes which I can’t recall right now but 2 quick visual clues are:

The Gen1 remote has a little bulb IR emitter where as Gen2 remote has flush IR

Gen2 has a silver WD logo on the front where as it’s etched on Gen1.

If you’re running 1.03.01 the you have the latest (and last) firmware for a Gen1.  There is no update for you.

The latest firmware for a Gen2 would be 1.01.77.

A Gen1 WDTV HD will have one of the following model numbers:

  • WDAVN00BN
  • WDAVP00BE
  • WDAVN00BS
  • WDAVP00BS
  • WDAVP00BP

A Gen2 WDTV HD will have one of the following model numbers:

  • WDBABF0000NBK-NESN
  • WDBABF0000NBK-NECS
  • WDBABF0000NBK-JESN
  • WDBABF0000NBK-SESN
  • WDBABG0000NBK-SESN
  • WDBABG0000NBK-EESN
  • WDBABG0000NBK-AESN

Thanks for the replies, that confirms i have the gen 1
