WD TV Live problem with playback

Hello,

I am a rather happy owner of a Western Digital TV Live, bought on December 2013. At some point, withouht nothing changing in terms of set up, movies format or firmware updates (at least that i know of), I started having problem with playing movies. The movies are of MKV format that were initially played without the slightest issue. At a random point the movie wouldn’t start at all and the screen would remain at the little arrow spinning without nothing happening for quite a while. Also, while playing the movie normally, after a random time elapsed, it would only indicate 00:00:00/00:00:00 in the time elapsed/remaining, without the possibility of pausing, rewinding or forwarding. In case of pressing the back button, or home, it would move to the folder containing the movie (or go to home), but the sound would continue as nothing happend, with no possiblity of going back to the movie. If I proceed to shut down the WD the movie would stop but reopenning would continue only with the sound playing from the last movie. It would only be fixed if a restart is made from the settings menu. I have already performed a reset of the WD but not resolving the problem. Just to mention that the problem does not occur every time I play a film, but the majority of the time. Sometimes, if i’m lucky enough, i can see the film normally, with various pauses during it with no problem.

This problem is visible either playing media on a local network share and a USB drive (HDD or USB stick). Most of the films are MKV files, usually 720p with external subs, around 5-8GB of size (depending on the movie) with normal 5.1 DTS sound, nothing special.
My basic set up is that the films are stored in a PC running Win7 and the WD “sees” the films via Local Share option. Both PC and WD are ethernet connected to the same router.

I hope I made myself clear about the issue I’m facing.
Sorry for the long post and sorry in advance if a similar post exists. Searching for this kind of issue didn’t come up witth good results… :frowning:

Cheers,

Alex
