WD TV live Media Player stuck in the Logo Screen

My WD TV Lice Media Player which was working fine up until yesterday is now stuck on the Logo Screen, does not repond to the remote and does not move to the Menu screen to look at Set up or anything! I believe the trouble started after it went for a firmware upgrade on its own!

I tried doing a Hard Reset. It seems that does not do anything - I was expecting the device go for a reboot etc - but nothing happens. I have also tried to connect a USB thum drive with the latest firmware from WD’s site, that didn’t help either!

Is model C3H, connected to the TV via HDMI output. P/NWCDBHG70000NBK-01

Thank you in advance for your help.

WD media players have never done that – all firmware updates require user interaction.

By the way, you’re in the wrong forum… This forum is for the 2009 model WDTV Live HD and 2010 model WDTV Live Plus.

The forum for the 2011 WDTV Live Streaming Media Player is here: http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-SMP-Discussions/bd-p/streaming_discussions

Thank you for your reply. My statement related to automatic upgrade of firmware was based on something I saw something like “downloading firmware…” on the screen. I do not know if WD Live TV Streaming Media Player has auto upgrade capability or not.

Hi  TonyPh12345

Do you know if the firmware can be upgraded using a PC App via interconnecting USB port on my PC to one of the USB ports on the WD TV Live?

Thank you in advance.

If it said “downloading firmware…” it’s because someone told it to do so.

The only thing the WD TV does when new firmware is available is put a notification on the screen (the type of notification depends on the theme used).

No, there’s no way to upload firmware via USB connection to your PC.

ok, thanks. I have opened a ticket with WD, let’s see what they say about how I can reset my device or recover some other way!

Did part of your hard reset routine include pulling the power plug from the back of the WDTV?  If not, do that and let it sit for a while before you plug it back in.

yeah, your best bet is a series of resets, try to force it into recovery mode

then you can insert a USB with valid firmware
