WD TV Live Help!

Hey guys so I have some movies that I got from my bluray library and they are all in mp4 format, i added them to my external hardrive (3TB Seagate external HDD usb 3.0 that i just got on black friday) and i watched a movie in mp4 format with no problems two days ago… now all of the sudden everytime i try watching an mp4 movie it says my device doesnt support that format and i need to check the manual?? **bleep**? like i just watched THAT same movie two days ago and now its saying it doesnt suport mp4?? i am running firmware 1.01.43 and i havent updated because ive read that it may ruin some things and i wont be able to play some formats…
how can i fix this? i want to watch mp4’s really bad, i dont want to return this if it was working just 2 days ago…

ps: ive also downloaded music videos and i cant even watch those (mp4 format) i also have some mkv and those dont work either…

please help!
thanks in advance

edit: i have a WDBHG70000NBK-HESN

I call this problem a WDTV hiccup.  Once in a while I can get this message; don’t know why – maybe it is the file format I previously played causing it.  Since my WDTV works fine 99.9% of the time, to clear this I just turn it off and back on after a few moments of silence.  That usually fixes it, but if not I do it again AND remove it from power for 10 or so seconds.  That surely fixes it, 'cause my player still plays fine.

Of course, if this doesn’t clear up the problem, then it is obviously something else wrong.  Basic rule of thumb about electronic gear, is if it is acting weird, turn it off, remove power if necessary and start it up again.

Firmware 1.01.43 is old; upgrade it.

Bluray movie files are mastered in m2ts format not mp4 format.

What happens when you use a virgin bluray rip?

Downloading music videos in mp4 format; are you a pirate?

thanks for the reply guys.

I have tried resetting the WDTV by turning off the power, going to system and reset and sometimes restart to factory settings and nothing.

I did update to the lastest firmware last night and i still cant play mp4’s… (theyre x264 i believe). I downloaded a video off youtube converter and i made it mp4. i want to make a music video library if that makes any sence… but they are mp4 format just like the movies and videos i got but my wdtv keeps saying its a format not supported…

Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file.

That’s a Sony Playstation Portable-specifc format.

WD won’t play that.

here is more info on that file

Video:
Codec: AVC via x264
Profile: High@3.1
Bitrate: 3072 Kbps
FPS: 23.976
Rate Control: 2 pass

Audio 1:
Codec: AAC Dolby Pro Logic II
Bitrate: 160 Kbps

edit: also would getting the wd HUB be any diferent?

It’s a Sony Proprietary  aka. Protected  Video Format.

Meaning if you downloaded it from the Playstation Store… it’s locked to your Machine (you cannot play it on another device)

If someone gave you a copy of the movie, it wont play on your Playstation.  (Only on the person’s that gave it to you)

Yes, it’s Possible to Get Info from the Video file, but you cant demux it … (extract the Video and Audio Streams)  ive tried

and No,  the Live Hub will not play it.

how come it cant play the mp4s when i download videos off of youtube?

i feel like this thing doesn play anything… everything i have is not able to play in this thing… what is going on?? its driving me insane

Unless the situation is different at YouTobe now, their Flash videos are not downloadable.  So, how is it you are downloading them?

One can use a video converting site such as keepvid to convert the Flash videos to mp4, and I have done so.  The mp4 videos I have created this way play fine on any gadget that will play mp4’s – including the WDTV.

i use download helper 4.9.7 and i can download the videos in HD and they download on mp4 and the wd tv does not play them…

Again, we can’t tell you unless you post the mediainfo!

http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net

so after a stressful time i returned this piece of **bleep** and got an appletv, jailbroke it and now i can play any video format, much better than wdtv, highly recommended… for those of you having problems.
