Hey guys so I have some movies that I got from my bluray library and they are all in mp4 format, i added them to my external hardrive (3TB Seagate external HDD usb 3.0 that i just got on black friday) and i watched a movie in mp4 format with no problems two days ago… now all of the sudden everytime i try watching an mp4 movie it says my device doesnt support that format and i need to check the manual?? **bleep**? like i just watched THAT same movie two days ago and now its saying it doesnt suport mp4?? i am running firmware 1.01.43 and i havent updated because ive read that it may ruin some things and i wont be able to play some formats…
how can i fix this? i want to watch mp4’s really bad, i dont want to return this if it was working just 2 days ago…
ps: ive also downloaded music videos and i cant even watch those (mp4 format) i also have some mkv and those dont work either…
I call this problem a WDTV hiccup. Once in a while I can get this message; don’t know why – maybe it is the file format I previously played causing it. Since my WDTV works fine 99.9% of the time, to clear this I just turn it off and back on after a few moments of silence. That usually fixes it, but if not I do it again AND remove it from power for 10 or so seconds. That surely fixes it, 'cause my player still plays fine.
Of course, if this doesn’t clear up the problem, then it is obviously something else wrong. Basic rule of thumb about electronic gear, is if it is acting weird, turn it off, remove power if necessary and start it up again.
I have tried resetting the WDTV by turning off the power, going to system and reset and sometimes restart to factory settings and nothing.
I did update to the lastest firmware last night and i still cant play mp4’s… (theyre x264 i believe). I downloaded a video off youtube converter and i made it mp4. i want to make a music video library if that makes any sence… but they are mp4 format just like the movies and videos i got but my wdtv keeps saying its a format not supported…
Unless the situation is different at YouTobe now, their Flash videos are not downloadable. So, how is it you are downloading them?
One can use a video converting site such as keepvid to convert the Flash videos to mp4, and I have done so. The mp4 videos I have created this way play fine on any gadget that will play mp4’s – including the WDTV.
so after a stressful time i returned this piece of **bleep** and got an appletv, jailbroke it and now i can play any video format, much better than wdtv, highly recommended… for those of you having problems.
