Why is it that after every time WD downloads and installs new software, either for my WD MyCloud drive or for the SmartWare backup software it also automatically changes the IP address for my MyCloud drive? My network then no longer recognizes the device and I can’t “find” it using the dashboard, the Cloud software or Windows Explorer. This is maddening because my system is no longer being backed up when the IP address is changed. How can I change that IP address so it’s recognized (or keep the old IP address)?
If you set a static IP it will stay through an upgrade, if you use DHCP it can change anytime. just be sure to chose an address outside of the DHCP pool on the router. A static IP can avoid a number of issues
during any type of restore it will be set back to DHCP
Sorry, but I’m not that advanced. How do I set a static IP address (vs DHCP)? Thanks for whatever guidance you can provide.
