Can you post a screenshot?
Both the backup and restore tabs only become active when there is a suitable drive present that can be backed up to/from. These should be visible from the main tab (the one that is initially open when you start Smartware), but may need to be selected. Alternatively if it’s a network drive like a MyCloud you sometimes need to wait a little while for the communications between it and your computer to be completed and for the logging into the drive to finish and it be active.
That said if there is no suitable drive available/logged in the tabs are normally greyed out rather than black, hence why a screenshot may help clarify things.
You have Smartware, not Smartware Pro. You certainly need Pro to access Dropbox for backup, and also for non-WD USB drives. So it looks to me like for some reason your drive isn’t being recognised as a WD one, or it is one that isn’t covered by Smartware standard.
If you click the key icon in the top-right hand corner it will give you various options for upgrading (trial, purchase or activate). If your drive came with a free copy of Pro (some do, I don’t recall offhand which ones do and which just get a trial) then when you registered it you should have been sent an activation code, which you need to use via that menu.
If you haven’t got an activation code but want to try it, use the menu via the icon to start the 30 day trial, and later if you want to then you can buy via the same menu. Or perhaps look at WD backup instead, as that’s designed for USB drives although is a little more restricted (it only does on-demand backups, it doesn’t have the continuous backup option that Smartware offers).
I loked up at the manual of the program and my drive is covered by the program so maybe there is another problem.
Does anyone know if there is a compatible version of the WD Anywhere backup for windows 10.
Thanks for your answer
If it’s covered then you need to register the drive, get your activation code and activate the Pro features. At the moment they aren’t active, hence why the tab is greyed out (and why you have the key icons everywhere).
