WD SmartWare does not allow select files from 2nd HDD

Hi,
I have 2 hard drives installed in my PC. When using the WD SmartWare (2.4.14) in File Backup mode I can’t select (i.e. tick) any files from my 2nd hard drive. If I change the source drive to the primary drive (drive C) then I can select files.

Hoping someone can help.

On the Home tab did you read the information provided.

Are you able to provide any images of what you are seeing?

Hi,
I’ve attached 2 images of what I see. Basically if I select C drive as the source then on the backup screen I can select files/folders (i.e. I can tick them) (2_C Drive folders selected.JPG), but if I change the source drive to my second HDD (drive I) then I can’t tick any files or folders. (4_I Drive folders NOT selected.JPG).

Hi,

Did you find a solution to this?

I have a similar problem; I can select and backup all drives (C:-system E:-media and H:-misc) but not D:-user files. When I try to select D: or any folder in it, the box in the folder list remains un-checked. I was running version 2.4.14.13 but also tried winding back to version 2.2.0.8 but no change.

Any thoughts welcome.

Tom

Hi Tom. No it’s still a problem for me. I’ve even changed the drive letter to see if that worked, which it didn’t. It’s getting to the stage I’ll have to format the PC to sort it out. If you find a solution please let me know. Paul.

Hi Paul,

Eureka!!!

I’ve solved it on my PC. The drive which wouldn’t backup was D: and I noticed that the retrieve folder was also set to D:. Changing the retrieve folder solved the problem of not being able to select any folders on D: for backup. Closer investigation revealed that WD Smartware will not allow the retrieve folder (or any sub-folders) to be selected for backup.

See if it works.

Good luck,

Tom

Hi Tom,
I O U a pint!!! it worked!!!

My drive letter is I: and the retrieve folder was set to to the same. Changing it has sorted it all out. I’ll be more careful in future where I restore to.

Many thanks for posting this solution, it’s saved me formatting the machine in frustration

Thanks again

Paul.
