WD Smartware doed not work properly

After a failure in my windows 10 installation on SSD Drive 1 (where WD smart-ware has worked flawlessly for years) , installed Windows on a second SSD drive).
when trying to install the WD software I noticed that quick view was frozen…
So I naturally uninstalled and reinstalled the WD software… and I noticed that while the dashboard loads perfectly and my cloud in working perfectly and fast, smart ware load very slowly and does not start backup.
I spent one hour or more with WD tech support…to no avail. ( we erased my cloud…(big mistake :)) and tried every trick they could think of… Nothing.
Meanwhile I was able to restore drive 1 (on which Windows got corrupted) and when I boot for drive one… Smartware start’s up automatically and perfectly.
When I boot from drive 2…Nothing… ( I need the installation of Windows on drive 2 due to other legacy problems I had on drive 1).
any advise what’s going on…

Couple of suggestions. First completely uninstall all WD software including Smartware. Then make sure Windows 10 is up to date with the latest Windows updates before reinstalling Smartware and or other WD software. If using any third party security/antivirus software (like from McAfee, Norton, etc.) disable that software before attempting to reinstall Smartware and other WD software. Install Smartware and other WD Software as the Administrator. Install Smartware to the “C:” drive rather than a second or third storage drive/location.

Or you can simply dump Smartware and use a third party backup program. There are a number of free and paid backup programs that have similar (or better) features than Smartware including emergency boot disc recovery options. Here are a few free backup programs, there are others:

Thank you for your comments:

  1. I uninstalled all WD software 4 times. used CCleaner to clean the registry of leftovers…
  2. I do not use any third party security software.
  3. I have tried ti install only from drive C:.
    I’ll try now to install under administrator… let’s see…

Just tried to install WD smart-ware as administrator … same result it freezes… when i try to right click on the quick view icon…nothing happens.
and when i press the windows button… I see a blue flash… and nothing…

Very Very Strange… and when I boot from the 2nd drive… all is well…

That would seem to indicate some sort of configuration problem with the first drive that is having the freezing issue with the software.

You may want to review the various OS settings and applications between the two hard drives to see if there is a different setting or installed program that is potentially causing the problem. This assumes of course that both drives are using the same operating system (i.e. Windows 10 for example).

Thanks what I’ve been trying to do…
but its not that simple… as every reboot requires me to access the bios and changing the boot order…

BTW I tested some of the backup software you suggested… but none of them recognizes the MY Cloud drive…

Have you tried mapping MyCloud shares as network drives? Then the backup tools will see the MyCloud just as another named disk.

Map the My Cloud drive and then you can use it as a backup target if the program won’t let you search the network neighborhood for a backup target.

Impossible to map it as a drive…
not even the public directories…
I’m waiting for another call from WD…we’ll see…

How is it impossible to map? What specific error message are you getting?

MY Cloud is not mappable…

Hi, Bennor. It seems that you know very much information about IT sphere, it is cool. Can you help me, please? I am looking for a good cleaner app for my computer because it started to work very difficult, may be there are some cash files or junk. I found a link (https://thinkmobiles.com/blog/best-registry-cleaner-tools/) where are described some of these apps, can you tell me what app is better for PC? I’ll be very thankful if you are sharing with me your opinion.
