Every now and then when my Mac wakes from sleep I notice that WD Quick View icon is greyed out and when you click it the device (in my case a My Cloud EX2) has a red dot next to it so is not available, even though it is working fine.
This happened with OS X 10.10 as well as 10.11. If you just un-install and re-install the software (no re-boot etc.) then it starts working again. This looks like a bug in the Quick View software?
This seems to be an accepted bug by WD who are looking into it.
I have noticed that sometimes after the Mac wakes if you just wait a while it sometimes starts working again.
You can also force it to start working by going into System Preferences and select WDQuick View, then select “Stop and remove from Login items” (will ask for your password) then select “Start and open when you log in. This fixes immediately”.
I found this page because I have exactly the same problem. I’m on Sierra, and downloaded the latest version of QuickView.
It’s disappointing to see that this was an accepted bug in Oct 2015, and is still a problem in March 2017. WD make good disks, but I’ve really not been impressed by the software support for the drive (4TB MyCloud) I just bought.
In case of WD Quick view, in Mac I was never able to see notifications from the units properly even though it worked perfect in Quick view version for windows… I never got support at all on this issue.
My assumption with this SW is it has been deprecated by WD Access, which actually is a downgrade in terms of features.
For the problem with WD Rice Utilities I even tried the latest WD Discovery App, which has a newer version of WD Drive Utilities included, but still crashes when you try to open the Drive Utilities component!
WD do have some serious issues with their software!
