Recently, I noticed that my back up stopped backing up in Nov. '21. I can’t open anything to get to the sections where I can change anything. I’ve tried researching everywhere to find solutions and can’t find simple answers to help. None of the suggestions I’ve found have worked. I put a lot of money into this back-up so I would really like for it to work. I did download EdgeRover which is what we’re supposed to use now(?), but need to figure that out, too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
There are many issues that may cause files not to be backed up, including fragmented disk, infected computer, file permissions, long filename, folder path too long, etc.
- Fragmented disk: You can run a disk check and fix the fragmented disk. This may be helpful to resolve issues regarding files not backed up due to fragmentation.
- Infected computer: A computer infected with a Virus or Malware may prevent a file from being backed up. Ensure the computer system is virus and Malware free.
- File permissions: Operating System has methods for assigning permissions and rights to folders and files. These permissions control the ability to view, modify, change, and delete files. Ensure the owner and system have permission to access the files.
- Long filename/folder paths too long: Folder paths may be too long and prevent files from being backed up. To rectify this issue, you can shorten the source folder path.
To fix this issue, you can check the following things:
-
Verify the WD Backup Drive Helper service starts when WD Backup is opened.
-
Make sure WD Backup is allowed and not blocked by anti-virus software.
-
Ensure the WD drive is connected directly to the computer.
-
Ensure the drive firmware is up to date.
-
Ensure the drive can be detected and accessed by a computer.
-
Make sure WD Backup can support this drive
I hope these methods and steps will help you to resolve your issues.
I’m so sorry, but most of what you said is over my head. I did do a malware scan and nothing came up. When I click on anything WD Backup, nothing will open. The utilites will open only to do the three drive checks, which I did, and they were okay. I found that I can manually save everything, but that’s a pain. When I clicked on the WD Backup website, it said this: " WD Backup (Support for WD Backup has ended. Users should download Acronis True Image for Western Digital)" Not sure if this has anything to do with it?
If I uninstall it, can I re-download it? I went to their website at: Software and Firmware Downloads | WD Support
and found this:
Install WD Discovery for Windows]
File Size: 959 KB
Version: 4.3.336
Release Date: 8/12/2021 | [Release Notes]
Thank you for trying to help. I appreciate it! Hope I was clear in what I was asking. ![]()
