I have WD My Passport ultra 1 TB external hard disk. Some times it is showing " request failed due to fatal device error’ and drive is not accessible.
What can I do fix this error.
What if I run error check using properties?? will it erase my data on external drive or only fixes error

You could try out different data cable and use another USB port to directly connect the hard drive. I the error persists, you may go for an RMA of the drive under warranty:
