HELP!! I’m confused by a lot of the info on here. I’m feeling left behind in the tech world and so need step by step guidance to recover the data on this My Book! I bought it in 2013 and haven’t used it much. I have uninstalled the WD Smartware and WD utilities software.
I’ve a huge amount of photos that are so precious (my husband passed away suddenly and there are lots of him and the kids ) and they are the only copies!! I did this with help from someone to free up space on my iMac, now I wish I’d left them in iPhotos!! Is there anything I can do? I’d be so grateful for someone’s help. Thanks.
So just moments after posting this I re-read some answers on another similar topic and it talked about replacing the usb cable. BINGO!! It’s now showing and opening!! I’m so HAPPEEEE!!
If you have similar issues TRY REPLACING THE CABLE first, it could be as simple as that! Good luck everyone!
Thank you for sharing the solution to your issue. However, since you have such important data on your drive i recommend having a backup on another location. Remember that is not a backup if its only in one place.
Hi Hamlet,
Just what my 14 yr old son said, thanks for the reminder! I’ll get another drive. I’ve also got 1TB on cloud storage so will put photos there too although I’m not sure how reliable they are!
Many thanks.
I have exactly the same problem: “WD My Book 1TB won’t mount on iMac (10.9.5 software)”. Fumbling with the cable doesn’t seem an option for me; I have a USB 2.0 cable and that’s it. After unlocking the disk using WD SmartWare’s “DriveUnlock” I get the message “The medium couldn’t be read by this computer” (translated from German “Das eingelegte Medium konnte von diesem Computer nicht gelesen werden”). I had successfully used the disk before (until January 2016, using the Time Machine), never encountering any problem.
