WD Elements Portable 25A1 (let’s call this faulty drive #1) is recognized but won’t fully load, then it bogs down my Acer Aspire Laptop running Windows 8.
Let’s back up now in this story. I’ve had this happen on a previous external of the same model (let’s call this recovered and working drive #2). Somehow I ran utilities or something for #2, and it shutdown to restart and then said “repairing drive.” It fixed it! YAY.
I had to dump my computer back to factory for other reasons, so when I tried to repair drive #1, utilities does nothing. If the pictures attaches as it should, you’ll see that the Lifeguard diagnostics recognizes it, shows it’s fine, it passes, but I cannot click on anything in that line. It just bogs my computer. If I try to shut down my computer with Elements #1 (bad one) attached, the computer will not shut down but just goes into a spin for hours, even overnight. I know this can be fixed. I just can’t remember exactly how I did it the first times and every download from WD will not do anything helpful.
BTW, it is definitely not a Window’s issue or I wouldn’t be able to use my two other WD and off brand externals. And, I’ve been in touch with WD several times and everyone has been very kind, but I have been told the drive is non-recoverable (and I know that isn’t true), and given the same list of things to do again and again with the same results. I need something new or at least correct here. TIA
