WD Elements not recognized by WD security

Hi there!
I have trouble setting passwords to some of my external WD hard drives using WD Security. I have installed WD Discovery and reinstalled WD Security. The drives are recognized by WD Discovery, however WD security does not recognize them and asks me to mount a supported drive. The drives have time machine backups as well as other files on them - can that be the cause?
