WD Discovery Fails to Install on Windows 10 32-Bit Machine

Really perplexed I cannot get WD Discovery to install on my brand new Microsoft Surface Pro X 32-Bit Windows 10 Home machine. Tried every solution posted here. Still no luck. Clearly some sort of odd incompatibility issue here. I have it working fine on my back up Lenovo Win 10 Yoga laptop. Leads me to believe there is something inherent in my Surface Pro X configuration that is blocking the app from installing. But what? Again, tried every solution posted here. Any help on what “really” works would be greatly appreciated. If not, I suppose I will just have to go with the WD My Cloud Home dashboard.

Thanks!

I’m fairly sure it says it only works (properly? at all?) o na 64-bit OS or machine?
It says the download is for “Windows 10 32/64-bit versions” though a footnote says " *Important note: My Cloud Home functionality is available only on 64 - bit operating systems" though it’s not clear if the asterix is attached to anything specific.

edit: my remarks include ignorance of specifics of Lenovo laptops which might be of some relevance!
edit2: lots of edits because my typing is rubbish today…

mcgrgho,

Many thanks for the information. Even with your supposed “rubbish” typing, you are doing much better than me. Next time, I’ll read the fine print before asking questions. That said fortunately, I can still use the Surface Pro X to log into my device (i.e., by logging into My Cloud Home’s web based Dashboard), and access the file system. I’ll upload any relevant MP4 or MP3 files that way. That’s what I mostly use Discovery for, so it’s not a major loss.

There are a number of these posts from others regarding WD Discovery/Win 10 install problems. I now doubt that these folks are aware of the supposed 32-bit incompatibility issue.

Appreciate the help.

Happy holidays. Waited a whole year. Contacted WD Support again. They told me their product is not compatible with machines running ARM-based processors, and there is no plans at this time to re-compile WD Discovery to make it run on ARM-based processors. That’s ridiculous. There is a market for it. Not that I’m a software expert, but I also don’t think a re-compile is all that difficult to do.

But wait. It gets worse. Windows 10 just released a Preview Build (21277). One of the most important features of this new build is x64 emulation. Meaning, once the Build is installed, Windows 10 machines with ARM-based processors should be able to successfully install and run x64 apps that run on Intel processors.

But when I installed the new Preview Build and try to install WD Discovery again, guess what? It didn’t work again.

I give up. I guess I will just use the WD Home web-based app to access Plex directories on the device. Not sure what else to do.

A watched pot never boils.
I still support and use WD products, but WD is a major disappointment with this issue.

Cheers.
