WD Blue 1TB SATA3 not recognized by the motherboard

Hi,

Yesterday I purchased a brand new WD Blue 1TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB HDD that is not recognized by the motherboard - it only shows 0.0GB in bios and everytime I start the computer I can hear the disk motor repeatedly starting to spin then stopping. It’s also making some strange rhytmic noises like clicking or ticking.

The system is working fine with my old WD Green 500GB SATA3 HDD but when I’m trying to boot with the new HDD installed as secondary, windows starts very slow and the whole operating system is sluggish.
I tried 4 different SATA cables on all 6 SATA ports, I also reset the bios and changed from AHCI to IDE mode, with no result. If I only connect the power cable, the disk doesn’t make any abnormal noise.
After updating the bios, it’s still making those sounds but only for a few seconds then it stops, and it’s still showing 0.0GB in bios.

System specifications:
Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-D3H  motherboard, AMD A8-5600K 3.6GHZ APU with Radeon HD7560D, 2x4GB DDR3 1866MHZ Geil RAM on dual channel, WD Green 500GB SATA3 HDD,  Asus SATA DVD-RW , Creative X-Fi soundcard, 500W power source, Windows 7 64bit SP1

Darkh,

Is the new drive a SATA 2 3Gb/s or SATA 3 6Gb/s?

If it’s a SATA 3 6Gb/s, make sure to set a jumper on the location 5-6 to downgrade the speed of the unit to 3 Gb/s

Also, you may try the unit on a different computer.
