WD Anywhere Backup doesn't like Windows 10 Pro and a general question

Hi,

Maybe it’s already mentioned/anwered in this forum but when I download WD Anywhere Backup, it says it can’t run under this version of Windows(= 10 Pro) Did I use the correct download link? (Software and Firmware Downloads | WD Support)

Obviously not. I tought the software would be updated and the page not…Not the case.
So where do I download the program?

Or would it be better to use Acronis?

And then the more general question. Is there really a need for separate Backup software?

Up to now, I back up an image of my c-drive (OS+software) with my own regular backup software(Macrium) which is about 30GB.

I do this to a separate HDD in the PC. Then I let the Backup folder on the HDD sync with the WDMycloud.

So my backup file is automatically stored on a separate HDD and on WDMycloud.

What are the advantages of using other backup software like WD Anywhere Backup or Acronis?

Thanks in advance for any reaction and greetings from Belgium!!

I use Macrium Reflect without any issues. I made a “Boot CD” and backup using that method. The software can see the MyCloud over the network and I backup to it directly. I previously used Acronis TI, years ago, but I find Macrium does it all. I also copy, from the My Cloud, the PC backup to an external HDD as a additional safe storage.

Sector GZ, thanks for answering so fast!

So I can continue doing what I did until now.

Or backup directly to the NAS. A few months ago, I needed to use my backup
and it went great. But as I recall, when you use the Boot CD from Macrium,
you can’t choose the NAS. I’ll try it again later.

First, the supported operating systems for WD Anywhere Backup DOES NOT list Windows 10.

Supported Operating Systems

Windows 7
Windows XP SP3
Windows Vista SP2

Second, that software hasn’t been updated since 2009.

Third, you may want to post in and or search through the dedicated WD Software subforum to see if there are similar discussions related to Windows 10 and the Anywhere Backup program:

Fourth, there are a number of free third party programs in addition to paid backup programs like Acronis one can use to backup or sync/mirror their computer to either second hard drive (internal or external) or an NAS drive like the My Cloud. Here are some of those free third party programs, some of which may even offer emergency boot CD/USB support for backup and recovery.

Hi Bennor,

Thanks for your swift answer.

That Windows 10 wasn’t listed I wrote in my first post.

“I tought the software would be updated and the page not…Not the case.”

I also wrote I was using Macrium to Backup.

“Up to now, I back up an image of my c-drive (OS+software) with my own regular backup software(Macrium) which is about 30GB.”

But meanwhile I came to the conclusion I was already doing it quite right with the combination of Macrium Reflect and WDMycloud. I just thought software specially made for the WDMycloud devices would be better or have more possibilities, so I wanted to try it.

Like I wrote before in my answer to SectorGZ, a few months ago I needed to use my backup after a complete crash of which I still don’t know what the reason was.

Because my backup was on a separate internal disk I used the most recent file on that disk to restore the computer.I was wrong thinking the backups synced from that disk to WDMycloud weren’t accessible when I used the rescue disk.I tried it earlier today and they are perfectly listed together along the ones of the internal disk. Of course it wouldn’t be very logical you can backup to a medium and with the same program you can’t access a file made by that same program.

Thanks for the input and greetings from sunny Belgium!
