I have a 6tb WD external hard drive that I have connected to my xbox one console to store my games on and for some reason after taking the drive out to the box and connecting it up to my onsole by usb, the console should be giving me the option to format and use as a game storage external drive and name it.
But that is not happening and instead it is automatically designating it as a media storage drive for music and pictures.
It will not let me change this in the console manage storage and has anybody else had this happen to them and how do I fix this?
This is weird as your Xbox One should be compatible with the WD external drive. If it’s recognized as a media storage, it means that it’s not meeting the external storage requirements.
My suggestion would be to perform the partitioning and formatting of your WD external HDD on your PC through Disk Management and then try plugging it back to the Xbox One.
I am not sure what other requirements their are because the 6tb hard drive is 3.0 and the hub that I am also using is a 3.0 usb hub.
I have connected the drive to my windows pc that is using windows 8.1 and formatted it and when I re-connected the drive to my xbox one console it still recognized it as a media drive. I have no idea why it is doing this.
