V2.3 released: WDTVHubGen - Looks up Movies, TV Shows and creates XML for the Hub

NoSlack - Thank you for getting back to me on this “no Data” issue.

I’m anxiously awaiting your update.  BTW-  I liked another person’s idea about being able to input the IMDB # for a specific movie.

It would help in cases where there are multiple versions of a movie, such as THE CHRISTMAS CAROL, or PLANET OF THE APES (1970 & 2010 Versions). Maybe you’ve added this already - but I just wanted to mention it. Thanks again for your program!

Releaseing V2.0  Click here to download

Version 2.0 (click on the right) this uses V4.0 of .net (download here)

Version 2.0 adds the following features: (apologize if I forget some, added a lot of little things)

Unified View, no longer is there a separate movie and tv tab, they are both processed in same tab now called Video. This unification greatly simplified the code base and should unify the experience some. This was done in preperation of v2.1 which I’m expanding to including music tagging.
Aggressive Lookup expanded. before if a movie wasn’t found, you could either rename it to make it better, or use “aggressive lookup” to find the first “n” words (defined in options), now there is an option to automatically go aggressive after a movie lookup has failed. i recommend turning it on.
improved parsing of files names to aid in lookup. probably didn’t know that the program parses the input filename and attempts to “clean” it up for lookup.
Added an option to “toggle” hidden JPGs, this is for use with the older models (not the hub) and allows the movies to be thumbnailed without the thumbs showing up. This works by toggling an entire directory (and sub directories), so use with caution.
Shows a “type” icon in the listview. This is either a movie (film strip) or a TV show (lcd tv icon)
DescriptionTemplate added. this allows you to Load the description with content that we have but for some reason isn’t displayed on the hub, like mpaa and movie rating.

Also added quite a bit of bug checking and updates that are too small to mention, but the program runs a lot cleaner now.

Thanks to everyone for all of the great feedback, I didn’t get to everything, but can’t wait to hear the feedback!!!

I miss my previous presets. Copying new files over the old, erases my old settings… but oh well.

I have v2.0 sucessfully running. Had to reboot computer, and reboot cable modem because I was getting error message concerning “API.theMovieDB.org”…  somehow, I’d lost my internet connection. No problem once I figured THAT out. (Cable modem was still lighting Up as “normal”).

I’m still running it thru it’s paces, but I’ll let you know if I find any new bugs

No Slack,

I’m happy you put out an update (from 1.2 to 2.0), and I like it sO far… However,

Where you have the MPAA ratings - I can’t seem to get that to STAY Off or however I’ve modified, once I’ve shutdown the program and re-started it.

It always seems to go back to demaning MPAA rating be part of the Movie Plot description (Synopsis?).

Is there anything I can do to make it stay how I want it, even between reboots of the program? Say, like some kind of user controlled preset?

 Thanks for looking into it.

                    Thanks.

                    Thanks.

I just got a WD TV Live Streaming (new version released this year), not the HUB.

So far it’s great and works perfectly for doing movies on my unRAID NAS Server.

One question though, what about for movie files I have that are split into 2 files? part 1 part 2?

I registered just to say thank you!

yep I’m another new user of the hub and the app v2.0 and registered to say “thanks very much”…

and also to re-ask an old Q that has remained unanswered  “can the renaming be turned off ?”

When I first used this app I was ‘surprsed’ to see the files renamed… (I also use a netgear EVA9150 which uses .tag files for metadata with the same name as the movie file)… this can be worked around but it would be good to have a final answer… from “the man himself”

and one more Q. which someone here will be able to answer…

how do I (or can I) setup the hub to show/list all movies available on all drives and shares and servers and hub at the same time (like a listing of all movies available across the network), this is something I like about the netgear… can it be done?? how?

In my limited usage so far it semms that I have to firstly specify the location of the movies then it will list the contents.

(I have content on two NAS, the netgear and the hub)

thanks to all here and to the man especially…

File renaming. funny, the name isn’t used by the hub, it uses what is the xml file, however the xml and jpg and movie file all have to have the same name. no-renaming is easy to do, I’ll add this as an option.> I’m in the middle of re-thinking file management for the whole product, and moving renaming and other functions into the product explictly and while it can remain automatic, it can also be exposed and manually managed.> sorry, i can’t  help you with the other questions.> and finally, thanks for the kudos.  this is a project of love. :)> * * *

I love this program, Thanks for all the hard work coding.

I have a bug. I can not get this program to DL any data for:

Merlin (2008) season 3

10,000 BC (2008)

The program gives me an error every time I try.

First and most important, thanks so muc for your hard work on this program. It is simply amazing. My tv shows are in AVI and MKV and your program has worked brilliantly for those.

I am very confused though on how to make it work with DVD formatted directories though. After reading through this thread multiple times, I believe that is now possible correct?

When I point the  program to the DVD directory (with the VOB, BUP and IFO files in the root) and click “get videos” nothing comes back at all, and I am not sure if the program is doing anything.  When I change the option for “supress VOB Processing” to “false” it see the VOB files in the top pane, but comes up with no information. What am I doing wrong here? Does the program pickup metadata based on the directory name? I have that as the exact name of the movie.

This is the Directory setup

\Rebecca

\Rebecca\VIDEO_TS.BUP

\Rebecca\VIDEO_TS.IFO

\Rebecca\VIDEO_TS.VOB

\Rebecca\VTS_01_0.BUP

\Rebecca\VTS_01_0.IFO

\Rebecca\VTS_01_1.VOB

\Rebecca\VTS_01_2.VOB

\Rebecca\VTS_01_3.VOB

\Rebecca\VTS_01_4.VOB

So is it is possible run HubGen on this type of setup and if so what am I doing wrong.

Thanks for any help

I would suggest ripping your DVDs to .iso instead of folders with .vob/ifo/bup

You end up with a single file instead of many. lose 0 quality. makes easier for generating and also better you decide to start using custom themes in the theming section.

Agreed Drizz which I am doing with my movies, quick 5min rip from DVD to ISO and the program is working great. Problem for me is that I have hunderds of concert videos that I collect and trade, and the “rules” of my trading group is that they must be in the original VOB format so I need to keep those that way. Don’t ask me why, just how it is.

But, the movies as ISO is working great and DVD Decryper is getting them done much faster than I had figured. Spending sunday watching football and converting 30 Alfred Hitchcock movies today. Not a bad afternoon at all.

BTW - As the concert stuff is not released movie / video, not sure how to deal with the metadata anyways. I have the information for each one (song listings, venue, tour dates etc) but It cannot be looked up in IMDB

-P

well you could image those into .iso as well. when you want to share 1 extract from iso back to vob. happens so quick and since no loss in package…no loss in unpackage.

you should ask you group if uncompressed .iso/.img are allowed. doesnt make sense.

Pearl,> it is supposed to work, it worked just fine in version 1.2, but haven’t tested it in v2 (might have screwed up the functionality, I’ll check and if broken release a patch)> thanks> Jeff> * * *

Drizz, thanks for the comment. I think you are right that I can convert to ISO and then Back to VOB if need be without any alteration to the video whatsover which would work if need be.

Jeff, thanks for the help, and let me know if I am doing somehting wrong here.

As above, not of the concert stuff has metadata on IMDB or THETVDB so am not sure this is really a worth while effort. I will need to do an enormous ammount of XML editing to get the synopsis and background images to work manually, although it would be pretty cool to scroll through them as I do with the movies now tha I have hubgen setup. Again, it’s F’n brilliant and works great with movies. Have had a few problems with some TV episodes but have managedd to edit the XML, add the synopsis and redirect the images correctly for ones I cannot find.

thanks

-P

Okay, again, so many thanks for this program. I am absolutley blown away with it. A few more question though.

I have run accross a few movies that it cannot find, and some TV shows that I have recorded with a standalone panasonic DVD burner that is attached to my cable box. No problem as I did find them on IMDB, so just copied over another XML file and manuall edited with a Txt Editor to have the proper names, actor, director etc, and then found tthe JPG on the net, resized and renamed it an voila, I am up and running with that movie/show. Great, easy, and I am very pleased.

The only issue I have had doing this is getting the backdrops to work. Do they have to be from cf1.imgobject.com or thetvdb.com? When I use a different URL for a JPG that I have found on the net it does not appear to work. Perhaps it is a sizing issue? So, can I use a bakcdrop from a different URL, and if so how?

In the end it’s not really that bad at all without a backdrop. I see in this thread that there are people who would prefer that anyways.

Thanks for any advice.

I have recently finished ripping my huge dvd collection of old danish movies(280 of them) and decided to give this movie scraper a go!

While ripping my movies, I named the files like in the expample below:

Movie title example: Bag de røde porte from 1951 and named the filename Bag de røde porte (1951)  “Movie title (year)”

So I had the original movie name + the year of release in the filename, but I guess I should have tested your probably ok movie scraper with just a few of them, instead of letting the program process all of them!

I now have a folder with 280 movies where I do not know if they have the right name anymore (The program automatically renamed a bunch of the movies to foreign movie titles which have nothing to do with the actual movie), and in some cases removed the year from the filename and replaced it with a single number!

It will probably take a couple of days to go through all of the movies and correct the wrong titles, it will be a process of playing each movie to ensure that it has the right title and year in the filename again

I really should have known better than to not just go ahead and select process all movies with your probably good movie scraper without reading your info about how it works!

Frillen,> I sent you a PM about this, but now I think I will share with everyone.  first off, I’m really sorry about that, didn’t intend for that kind of thing to ever happen.  I have added (just not released) an option to disable renaming (basically program keeps the same file name you start with, and names the jpg and xml files to that name) which would have been OK for you, but not ideal.  short of going through each file manually I guess I can add a “verify” option during automated look up that shows the intended name before committing it.> BTW, for everyone’s knowledge the original filename is contained within the xml so that it can be backed out. I’ll add an option to the program to do that on a one by one basis, but offered to create a utility to do it for every file ina  directory to Frillen,  anyone else need something like that?> Jeff> * * *
