V2.3 released: WDTVHubGen - Looks up Movies, TV Shows and creates XML for the Hub

No Slack, You missed my post back in January about this particular error message - So here is a screen capture so you can see what my original post was trying to say about this error message that occurs when I’m trying to look up MOVIE Info.

NoSlack - You seemed to have missed my message a few pages back about my problem with a movie like “A Christmas Carol (1984)” and multiple movies.

According to all I’ve read on your pages, if the program says “# of movies Found” - I’m supposed to press on thAT button and a list of FOUND movies will be displayed.

Not SO!

I’m using v1.2 of your program and when I press on this button - it gives me an error message “No Results (found) for this series”.

I think there’s something wrong HERE!

This is the problem I’ve been having all along. I read someone else had the same issue, and I’ve been raising this problem since version 1.08, with various movies.

TEST my issue out. Name a file "A Christmas Carol (1984).AVI (or MKV) and try looking it up with your program.  Could it be your code for this BUTTON was never revised (saved) before you published the final product? Because as I said, I can’t get that button to work for me (to show me additional movies from Database with same name).

HELP Me!

Thank you for being so persistent, i have identified the bug and will be releasing a v2 version soon tha twill include the fix.

i’m so sorry this continues to annoy you and really appreciate your help.

I love watching my computer actually doing something on its own, processing…something. Kewl. This program is very convenient. Thank you very much. Every time i enabled the feature in the hub i’d come home and find it crashed the drives.

I didn’t know the first thing about the process but there ought to be a warning that two extra files are created alongside the existing movie file. I was sort of hoping it would store data in a hidden folder elsewhere. I’m not complaining, My hub menu looks beautiful now. However, accessing the external drives on my nas with other media players means the file list has tripled and xmbc users like my old man have to weed through ‘litter’ to get to the movies. Not complaining. Maybe I could make those files hidden? Hmm.

I didn’t see anyone else ask but since the data is so easy to get: is it in future plans to create an ‘export’ feature to create an html file that will allow people thoughout the networked home who aren’t AT the Hub to peruse the selection with just a browser?

Great program and great device.

Wayne.

Wayne,

v2.0 will include a “media player” feature where anyone useing the program will be able to browse the files and launch them at their computer.

thanks

Jeff

Oh! What about music, man? Can you help us scrape amazon.com or somewhere for our concert video collections? My concert collection is MUCH larger than my movie collection. Later.

Music!?

what a cool idea, this probably wont make it into v2, it will definately go on the road map.

thanks

Hey,

Very nice app !!

i a about to get some data for my cartoon movies, but I can only see like 20 of them, the program can’t find the rest ?

They are all in .iso ?

I can see it counts up to 197, but then it says 50 displayed ?

superC

the count of files it is processing is the number of “files” in the directory of any type, it looks through these and then displays the files it knows/recognizes.  as you use the program that total file count will go up, but still only display the movie/tv files because it counts but doesnt’ display the .xml or .jpg files.

hope the helps

Jeff

I am obviously doing something wrong.  I have downloaded the WDTVHubGen, but cannot seem to see how it works.  All I get is the files unzipped - 14 in all.  Cannot run the program.  What am I doing wtong???

I’m not sure what is the issue, do you have .net 4.0 installed? (see first page of this, or the codeplex.com files)

after you download the zip, unzip into a directory and then run the .exe file (not the xml which might look the same)

it might take a while tot start up the first time becuase it is trying to find files specificed in the xml config file and the directories.  once it is up, choose correct directories for your tv and movies files and it will start much faster the second time.

hope this helps

Maybe someone can help me with chaning the name of the output jpg and xml

I have movies on my NAS sorted like this:

X:\Movies\300 (2006)

X:\Movies\Alice in Wonderland (2010)

etc

In these directories, my VOB files reside.

When collecting movie information with WDTVHubGen, the program creates names as:

VTS_01_0.jpg and VTS_01_0.xml

I would rather have it create:

300 (2006).jpg and 300 (2006).xml

Is this possible??

Thank you fro reading

Frank,

the name of the directory will be what is displayed by the hub, as this is a DVD rip it needs those vts files to stay those names, the hub should handle display correctly, please let me know

Jeff

Thanks for the great work!

Would it be possible to choose to use the episode thumbnail and use that instead of the series cover for episodes?

Synaptic

good idea, i’ll add as an option, however the icon/cover and screen caps are different ratios and will look funny… fair warning

Jeff

Hoppiness,\

sorry, not sure what could be causing that, i run on a win7 system and it flys.  how many movie files?

Hoopiness wrote:

Giving this a little try just now on some movie files. Seems like a good tool.

However, it is terribly slow. It seems like it hangs for anything up to a minute any time I try and do anything. Even scrolling freezes it for a second. Is this normal? I’m on Windows 7, running .net framework 4.

Only 8 .avi files.

I got there in the end and it looks good on the hub menu, but I probably couldn’t go through it for every movie I own…due to the hangs/pauses, which is a bit frustrating. I may uninstall/reinstall when I get time, though I don’t imagine that’s it seeing as the tool does work.

I just wanted to say thanks so much for this program.  It’s a great help.

I also just wondered if there was any reason why it recreates my chosen mkv files in another location.

Thanks again though - it saves so much time.

effing awesome dude! where’s the donate button?

Suggestions / Problems:

  1. If it doesnt find the right content info, could I specify the IMDB ref number myself?

  2. It doesn’t seem to recognise ‘CD3’

Hey Jeff,

your autogenerator tool ROCKS !!!

1000x Thanks!

I’m glad that I found it, hope you don’t stop the development.

Thanks!

Chris

I have a question:

I always get the message (during scanning) that  the file can not be built because it is already existing (freely translated, my windows is in german). On top of the error window it is written:

Error in WDTVHubGen at SaveCurrentItem Movie

Is this because the programm tries to renam the movie file that already has been renamed?

How can avoid this error.  It makes automatic rescans impossible, since I have to press the “okay” button  hundrets of times for the altready renamed movies?

Cheers,

Chris

which version are you using? v1.2? can you post a screen shot?

I just chose my movie folder (unRAID via SMB) and then I started the processing.

Hi Jeff,

The XML format has changed somewhat with the addition of the new firmware 2.07.17. Here’s an XML from a movie with the new firmware and one generated with WDTVHubGen. Both are generated using the same movie.
