Hi everyone! Is it possible to use WD My Cloud as a recording device for my web surveillance camera? I’ve just upgraded to firmware 2.10 and there is a new option called “camera backup” under backups.
Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the WD Community.
That option is not designed for surveillance cameras. Only digital cameras through the USB ports.
So there is no chance at all to designate a specific option into camera to record my video to wd my cloud ip address and folder?
Isn’t that a question for the camera maker???
Well, i was just wondering if anyone is using that option - to record certain video feed from a surveillance camera directly to WD My Clour Mirror.
So i think this is a question for WD as well…
If the camera can currently save to a network shared folder (be it SMB, NFS or Webdav) then the MCM should support that in the same fashion.
As to whether the camera can do that, as Tony said that’s a question for the camera maker, not for WD.
So, if my cam support this, i should just designate direct recording folder?
Something like this -
IP address/folder
192.168.43.44./folder1
?

Again, how would we know? We have no idea what your camera can and cannot do. You haven’t even told us anything about your cameras.
If the camera can do it then yes, but as Tony correctly comments all of this is purely subjective depending on what your camera can or cannot do. The MCM is just acting as a dumb file share here that you are saving/streaming the file onto. Hence why I suggested the test with a windows-shared folder via SMB (or a Linux-shared one via NFS).
The MCM is not doing anything in any way to control or operate the camera, it’s just providing a shared space to dump its output to. Whether the camera can or cannot use such a share is not something we can assist with or comment on.
Actually, i stil don’t have any camers, so my question was only aimed to the possiblity if i can use MCM as a video storage.
So apparently, i need to buy a camera which supports network share recording and that’s it!
