If you require an “official” recommendation, you should contact support directly using one of the methods in the link below.
It is generally recommended to avoid using a hard disk drive (HDD) for active data tasks while it is undergoing comprehensive diagnostics like the Western Digital Kitfox Extended Self-Test or Media Scan. While short, superficial tests might allow background operation, intense read/write operations during testing can lead to inaccurate results, increased, unnecessary stress on the drive, or failure of the test.
