Kitfox - How long to perform an Extended Device Self Test?

Software: Kitfox
Version: 1.2.1.0
Platform: Windows
Drive: WD8002PURP 8TB

Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb for the expected run-time of the Kitfox software on disk drives? i.e. something like 1 hr / TB * (Interface_speed_multiplier)

I get that it is dependent on the drive speed, interface type and capacity, but there must be an approximate expected maximum run-time formula that could give upper bounds so people know if the software will actually complete or not?

I have been running the Extended Device Self-Test on an 8TB Purple Pro drive, and it’s crawled its way to 90% over about a 8-hour span, but has remained stuck on 90% for the past 12 hours. I can only assume that the test has failed? (20 hours so far)

  • Does there exist any rough rule of thumb for how long this test takes?
  • Will the software abort if it exceeds any reasonable upper timeframe?
  • Does the software abort if it encounters errors during the test OR will it insist on finishing the whole test?

Thanks for any insights and experience with this software

Western Digital Kitfox Release Notes

Yes, that was one of the first places I looked

Release notes are change logs, a not run time cookbook and hence they contain nothing about expected run times

Searching the forum finds plenty of people asking a similar question but receiving no definitive answer(s)
