Upgrading to WD Smartware Pro

I am unable to activate WD Smartware Pro. I have bought the upgrade. However, whenever I try to enter the activation code it tells me “No Internet access detected. Please check your internet connection and try again”. However, my internet connection is working fine.

I couldn’t find anywhere to set up the internet connection in the WD Smartware software

I am trying to upgrade from WD Smartware 2.4.16

I cannot even log into WD website with my order number and e-mail address. It always tells me the order number or e-mail is missing or invalid.

Any suggestions?

You’re probably not hitting the activation server.
What do the following commands return in a DOS prompt?

  nslookup smartware.wdc.com

What do the logs tell you?

Have you tried rebooting your computer and/or your router? Then try to activate the SmartWare Pro 2.4.16. Here is a link to the SmartWare User Manual if you do not have it.

This is not a problem with internet access in my house. Resetting the router and PC makes no difference, and internet access is working perfectly for everything else (all other PCs and all other applications). This is a WD software problem somewhere

I have tried WD phone support. They always seem to be closed, even on hours that their website says they are open. Getting very angry! Taking my money, and it not working.

From SmartWare click on the Settings tab and then Set Up Drive, this should take you to the Dashboard. See image below. Click on, tap or activate images to enlarge them.

In the Dashboard click on the Settings tab and then Network to check your internet connection. See image below.

What do you have showing?

I do not see the same options as you on the settings tab. I don’t have the drive options that you point me to. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still the same

I have the same problems as discribed by Dayne_Reast. But I can see my MAC and IP adress in the settings. The internet access is O.K.But in the protocolls I can see the following:

Did you look at the Dashboard Settings? What does it show for the Status?

cat0w: I am not sure what you mean by dashboard settings. I shared a screen dump of what I see when I click the settings tab. I do not see the WDMyCloud drive settings that you showed on your screen dump.

I seem to have different software to what you are using. I have tried getting the latest WD Smartware software (2.4.16) from the website. Is there other software I need to install perhaps that will add the options you refer to?

It’s highly probably that your router is filtering or blocking incoming UDP/TCP ports with the default security settings or perhaps some installed Anti Malware,Virus or End Point Protection software running on the PC.

I am using a AVM fritz.box as server. It works really good but it is very safe. Sometimes it is good and sometimes not. I tried now for many times and some days to unlock a port for the verification. But it doesn’t work. So I used the mobile hotspot of my mobile phone and it was succesful. The smartware pro code is now activated. But it was very tricky.

Cant upgrade to Smartware Pro - Internet access problem. But Internet is fine.
