Updated Firmware and now I can't see any shares and can't create any

After working fine for a year My Cloud started acting up so I did a restart and saw the indicator for a Firmware update.  I updated thinking that would resolve the problem.  After the update I can not access the the Cloud from the network and all shares are essentially missing in action.  I really can’t afford to lose a years worth of information and I need to get this device back on-line.

Any suggestions?

Hi I am having the same issue as above.

Like the chap above I also have my whole life on the drive with pictures spanning back at least 10 years.

Here are a list of the issues I am having.

  • Log on to dash and I see a " - "   where the number of shares are

  • I see no capacity information

  • I see the word “error” in the conent scan box

  • I get a 500error on all of my apple devices

  • I get an error when i try and log on to the drive on the macbook

I did not have any of these issues when before the updte.

Please help

Snibot and I are having the exact same problem.  I have already reset the device several times and used the Rest Button twice.  Nothing brings it back to life or corrects the problem.

I am hesitant to try doing the firmware update agan with the Data not showing even though I know the data is there.  I really don’t want to disassemble this thing to retrieve my data.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by entering the IP address of the WD My Cloud into the web browser, instead of wdmycloud. You will see a new UI, and you will need to accept the terms and conditions. After that your drive will be available, and you can access the UI with wdmycloud again.

If the above dosn’t work do a system only restore, this will reset everything like new but leave shares and data in place. Unless somthing actually happened to the data, which I doubt is the case, this will brin it back.

Always be patient after any major operations, FW upgrade, system only restore, massive file adds etc. it could take a couple of days to stabiliaze again

Well,

First let mesay thank you for the advice. Doing a System Restore only allowed me to get access to my shares and most other functions are now working.  The only thing I lost apparently is all my user data and logins.

After the System Restore I was able to enter the addres in my browser and allowed to access the device but it deleted all my previous users and esablished only one user created from teh registration name from that screen.  Don’t get me wrong, creating 100 users again is a lot easier than creating all the data I thought I had lost.

One thing that bothers me about this new update however is not having a LOGOFF function.  Once you log in to the drive from teh browser there are only 2 option for leaving, unless you just close the browser, Shutdown or Reboot.  This create a security issue since you are closing your browser while still ogged in you actually leave an opening to your device.  If ou are using Internet Explorer you need to be aware of this and make sure you have all of Microsofts Security updates.  For Mozilla users it is not as much of a problem unless you have it set to keep cookies.  In either case, once you close the tab you need to close your browser completely.

I accepted this as a solution because it allowed me to access the device but not the shares and still showed Error on content.  This silution also allowed me to see my user data and allowed me to login using those logins.

larryg0,

Your solution worked but I lost all User Data.  Thank You, That is easier to recreate.

I can´t see my shares files on the wd2go.com and my iOS app. Both are the same information:

  1. Make sure your device is powered on and connected to a network with Internet acces Retry connection YES ITS
  2. Update the My Cloud firmware. You’ll need to do this from the device dashboard (web interface) under Settings. YES, IT´S UPDATED
  3. Update the My Book Live firmware. You’ll need to do this from the device dashboard (web interface) under Settings. Accept your device’s security certificate.Note: After you accept the certificate, you might have to refresh this tab to see your files.

Please, can you help me? Since I did the upgrade 308 My Cloud this problem appeared and I can not access my files. Only when I’m on the same network MyCloud.

all data lost? or just the user logins?

which restore did you use? there are 3 and only ‘system only restore leaves the data’ all will wipe out users. permissions and other configuration changes, think new out of the box with data & shares in place

if you really need 100 users you may want a higher end device then this. if not i suggest learning enough Linux to make a backup copy /etc/samba/overall_share and recover when needed and update the backup anytime you change users, shares or permission at least in the prior FW versions this file was easy to currupt and you lose some or all share access depending on what happened to the file also I would back it up every 5-10 users, would hate to be adding user 99 and lose the file

You should see an option to logoff once you have created a second user on the unit.  The option is not available with only one user, which is what happened during the reset.

Thank you.  I tried that as well.  Still no logoff access and I still can’t logon as I was doing before by mapping Network Drives.  Windows will not recognize the drive even though it is identified on the network.  I now have a complete back-up of everything and will reset teh drive to factory and avoid the update in the future.

I have an older Mirror of the drive I created when I first bought it and will restore the drive to original and re-initialize it from that.  This latest Firmware update seems to have problems and it has certainly created many problems.

I have lost all User data.  I have 100 registered users but never have more than 5 to 10 logged on at any given time.  When I bought the device it was just for me but it has blossumed to a much larger role where I am at.  While I had 100 users I only had 30 shares 1 of which was “Public” which is actually the one most people use.

I’m happy I got the data back.  My last back-up was a week old until this happened.  The only reason teh update happened before I created a new back-up was because I accidentally click the Auto Update and as soon as I did that it the problems started.  I had that turned off previously.

Thank you for your assitance.
