Hi, so I’m used to watch series and movies on my TV with my USB key attached to a multimedia player (Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player) which is connected to my TV with a HDMI. It worked perfectly fine.
But I recently bought an external hard drive (Amazon.com) and my device doesn’t recognize the external HDD even though it’s supposed to !
The external hard drive is in format NTFS and USB 3.0. And the capacity is only 1TB.
Thanks in advance !
It may not be compatible with your unit. Particularly so if this is a first generation WD TV HD Media Player (Black).
Thanks for your answer !
It is this one http://puu.sh/tiRL3/dfe41ace48.jpg don’t know if it’s the old one you’re talking about though but it may indeed be the problem here cause I know I’m in possession of this device since a long time.
What’s the newest WD Media Player, that could be able to read my HDD ?
Do do basic checks on “sharing”, in Windows, if Windows you are. Right clicking the external drive and setting the shares. You can do the same with the folders in it - at least, it can’t hurt. (Security tab, sharing tab, and shares in Control Panel for Network and Homegroup). Add a new group, “Everyone”, if you don’t already have it. The best advice on the above, is to become a bit of an expert with these things, because most problems stem from this, and that can certainly include an unrecognised hard drive. Spend some time over it.
