Unable to obtain IP address

I’m having trouble connecting my WDTV Live to my desktop comp. It works most of the time, but occasionally (like now) it refuses to connect. I’ve looked through other posts but haven’t found someone with a similar setup to mine (most connect WDTV to their router, whereas mine connects directly to my pc).

I have my desktop pc connected wirelessly to my router and the WDTV Live connected (by cable) to my desktop (separate ports/network cards). I do it this way because the router is in another room and I don’t want cables running everywhere and wirelessly streaming high def movies has proved unsuccessful without it skipping.

Anyway, I can’t get the WD to automatically optain an IP address. I’ve tried manually setting an IP address (which I managed to do, but didn’t work on its own) but can’t work out what to do about the DNS (when i look at my ipconfig /all it says (for my local area network) that the DNS servers are:
fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1
fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1
fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1
**bleep** is that supposed to mean? :\

What am I doing wrong or what could I do to fix it? I only get 1 day off a week and have already wasted half of it trying to fix this issue, so a quick reply would be GREATLY appreciated!

You don’t need to worry about the DNS and Gateway since, as you’re not going to be able to connec tthe WDTV through to the internet, those parameters are unneeded.

And, of course the WD isn’t going to be able to obtain an IP address, as you’re not connecting it to a device that can provide it with one  (your PC would have to be configured as a DHCP server AND a router, or a bridge.)

 fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1

That’s an IPV6 address.  Are you running IPV6 on your internal network?
