Unable to get a "local" connection on Home Wifi

I have connected my My Cloud Home on my home router which is also a wifi access point. I tried for more than a week, but I am not able to get “local” connection. All I could get was “Direct”. Sometimes it even turns back to “proxy” for no apparent reason. UpNp on my router is active, though there is no way to configure UpNp tables on the router. I guess they are automatic.

Only with LAN cable today I could achieve “local” connection. But the connection isn’t that great yet. I have a few questions related to this.

  1. Can I not get local connection over wifi? Do I need a LAN cable?
  2. Do I need a Gigabit Cable from my router to my computer too?
  3. I am unable to upgrade my router version software, in spite of multiple reboots. Is that causing the issue mentioned above and general slowness?
  4. How can I upgrade the software if it does not happen automatically.

@bvsprathap Hope this helps.

I had parallely raised it with my ISP and they replaced my router with an advanced version. When they did, it showed connection as “relay” (proxy) but after an hour it became local. I think it was an issue with router. Spent quite a few hours trying to figure that out.

I had the manual and I tried reboot for the firmware update too. Did not work till now. let us see now, with the change in the router.
