Hello
I have a WD MyCloud - connected to the home network (5 PCs/laptops, two tablets and one iPhone). All was well until the firmware upgraded 48+ hours ago, now network access is not working with a message of ‘The local device name is already in use’. I can access via the iPhone / through MS Edge etc.
I’ve tried remapping the drive, no joy. I’ve checked three of the PCs and all report that network is working correctly so no issues with Windows 10 (in all cases). Obviously SmartWare Pro is not backing up - reporting that access to the cloud file is denied.
Is someone able to help me please get the network connection back please?
So, you can’t connect to the MyCloud dashboard at all? Have you done a 40 second reset on the MyCloud? Have you re-booted the router? Under “Attached Devices” on the router dashboard, is the MyCloud listed with an IP address? If so, can you ping it? Is SMB1 set up on your Windows 10 PCs?
First troubleshooting step is to reboot the network router the My Cloud is connected to. Then see if you can access the My Cloud Dashboard once the router is rebooted.
If Windows PC’s are having difficulty accessing the My Cloud using Windows File Explorer make sure the Windows Network Profile is set to Private and not Public. Then ensure SMB1.0 is enabled under Windows Features.
I can access the dashboard via 192.168.1.xx; I cannot map a network drive - it simply does not feature in File Explorer to map to, although it appears as an icon under Network locations (This PC); Media Devices and Storage in file explorer (Network) - no changes have been made to any of the Windows 10 PCs / laptops that ordinarily access the MyCloud. I have rebooted the MyCloud; I have depowered (& removed the power cord) the MyCloud for several hours, still no joy.
I had already tried all of the above (thanks for your efforts in sharing); however, as mentioned in my response to sktn77a, the MyCloud is not available to map to (so frustrating). I will try these steps again and see if it is resolved.
One troubleshooting step, if you haven’t tried it already. Access the My Cloud using it’s IP address rather than name in Windows File Explorer (ex: \\192.168.1.10) and try mapping the Share (by right clicking on it and selecting Map network drive...) that way.
