I originally had a single-drive MyCloud device and that was just great for streaming audio and video files to my TV. However, it was 7 years old so I updated to an EX2 Ultra twin-drive. What a fabulous device. However, the Twonky server seems to behave differently.
I had 6 folder shares on the old MyCloud, as I do on the EX2 Ultra. Each folder was available separately on my TV; ie TV, Music, Home Movies etc.
However, with the EX2, when selecting TV programs, EVERY video file on the NAS shows up, NOT just the TV programs.
I have been through the settings a dozen times but it seems to me I have the settings as they were before,.
Does anyone has an idea how to have just the video files in ONE shared folder show up on the TV and not ALL video files on the whole NAS drive?
I have the settings the same as before as far as I can see. A bit of help would be appreciated.
Stay safe guys, and thank you. Mike
Few things to check. Consult the TV’s settings to see how it is connecting to the EX2 Ultra. Make sure it’s using DLNA to access the My Cloud (Twonky is a DLNA media server). Also check how the TV is listing the media. If one is using Shares to break out their media one may have to ensure the TV is sorting or viewing the media based on Shares and not by Media Type. One may also need to look into using Metadata tagging on their media files. Incorrect use of metadata tags may cause issues with some DLNA clients.
I appreciate your time, thank you.
I’ve had this TV for 7 years and it listed the shares perfectly when I had my single-drive MyCloud.
The ONLY difference now is the MyCloud EX2.
This used to be the path from my TV to “TV Programs” folder:
WDMyCloudEX2/VIDEOS/BYFOLDER/TV PROGRAMS (TV Programs being 1 of 8 shares)
That last stage (TV Programs) is not showing on the EX2. When I hit BYFOLDER, I get every video file on the NAS. I’ve tried different structures in the Twonky settings but I’m getting nowhere. I have tried via a different much newer TV, but folder structures are the same.
Since my original post, I’ve loaded PLEX. This is VERY clunky but I can get to the TV Programs folder, although via a couple more steps than I’m used to, but I do see TV Programs
I can only keep trying. I personally have not used metadata tags but I’m sure the server did that all by itself.
Thank you again.
One may have to see the Twonky Configuration page to check what settings Twonky is using.
http://IP_ADDRESS:9000/webconfig
See the Setup page. If there is an option for Navigation Tree, select the Show button to expand that section and see what the setting is. If there is an option for By Folder, select it and see if it fixes your issue. One may have to restart their TV’s DLNA client for Twonky configuration changes to be seen. Here is an example of that Twonky Setup page on OS3 firmware looks like, the OS5 version may be different.
Or one may also have to see the Twonky Settings > Sharing > Media Receiver section (click the Show button to expand the Media Receiver section) where one can see the settings for the individual DLNA clients/media receivers. One may be able to change the values/navigation style for each individual media receiver in that section. Example of this page from OS3, the OS5 version may be different.
If you haven’t already done so you may want to see the following WD Support Knowledgebase Article which may have further information on configuring Twonky.

There is also a Twonky Support Forum as well.
Wow, that’s a lot of information, for which I cannot thank you enough.
Pretty much everything you suggested is the way it is set up.
As can be seen “Uses your Folder Structure”… problem is, no it doesn’t.
I’m missing something really simple.
The ONLY thing I am unsure about is “restarting the TV’s DLNA client for Twonky configuration….”
The only control I have is to RESET the TV to factory defaults. That’s fine, if that’s what you mean, otherwise I see no way of resetting the DLNA client on the TV itself.
In fact the only DLNA settings on the TV is to switch it on so IT can be discovered on the network.
I confirm that my EX2 is running OS5. It updated from OS3 the moment I switched it on from new last week.
My OLD MyCloud was running OS5 before I changed it to the EX2, but still the shared folders appeared as I wanted them. Again, as far as I can see, the settings are the same as they were on the old NAS.
I will check out the Q&A pages as the day progresses.
Check the “By Folder” Navigation section (click the Show button to expand it) and see if there are any settings that may need to be adjusted.
By restarting the TV’s DLNA client I meant either powering the TV completly off then powering it back on, or at the very lease exiting the TV’s DLNA client app/setting.
One may also have to rebuild the Twonky database and or delete the Twonky cache (or settings). Twonky is, for better or worse, sometimes a hassle to deal with. Sometimes it incorrectly identifies the media receiver type causing problems for the TV’s DLNA client.
OK, I found the method of resetting the TV and DLNA server. That and I’ve rebuilt the database on the EX2 and still is the same.
So, I’ll post on the twonky forum and see if they know what’s what!
In the meantime, I’m using the PLEX server, it works but as I said earlier, very clunky. It’ll have to do for now.
Thank you for your help thus far.
Regards
Mike

Check your Plex Media Server settings. There may be an option to enable the DLNA server option for Plex.

Yes, I have all the PLEX settings as they should but not as good as Twonky.
However, I have discovered another method of streaming to my TV via the Amazon Firestick.
An app called Vimu, for the princely sum of £1.99, is downloadable to said stick.
So, I’ve gone back to Twonky and it works superbly.
No lag, FF and REW work spot on and it is SO configurable.
The folder structure is still the same; ie annoying, but it doesn’t matter with this app:
You can ‘bookmark’ each folder you’re interested in, ie TV, Films, Home Movies, etc so you’ll only see those.
Win-win.
Mike
If you haven’t tried it already. The Plex DLNA server option when enabled will create a DLNA server with the Plex media library. You should be able to access it with what ever app you used on the TV to access the Twonky DLNA media server.
How time flies when you’re having fun eh?
OK, so I’ve downloaded a paid-for app, to my Firestick, called VIMU.
Whilst it’s fairly basic, it wins hands-down over the server on my TV.
I have also gone back to Twonky Server, v8.5.2 That was NOT the version on my original WDMyCloud. I think it was v8.5.1
Not sure if that’s the problem and it’s just a “bug” in the new version because I am certain I have the settings the same as they were with my earlier NAS.
BUT, here we go again,. The same file structure is still “missing”!
Select TV Programs and I get every single video on the NAS.
So, I have e-mailed Twonky to ask for help.
This is seriously driving me insane now.
I want to thank you sincerely for your help thus-far and, if I get the solution, I will post it on this forum for all to see.
Mike
