Trying to get videos to play back

Hello everyone,
Happy New Year. So, I’m getting to grips with my new toy and think I’ve figured out the basics. I’ve copied some videos across and if they’re small (10mb) then open after a slight delay of 10s or so. There are a few big files of over 1.5gb and all I get is a flashing “Connecting” in Windows Media Player. I’ve left it running for 5-6 minutes and nothing appears on the screen. I appreciate they’re big files, but can anyone suggest a solution to actually get them to stream?
